Russian Translation Forum

Today I updated my Russian translation forum.
I have had probems with spam but hopefully now they are over. I used SMF engine and have not updated it in a year, now it is the latest stable version, 1.1.7.
I also installed several “packages” to prevent spam and improve SEO:
1. Pretty URLs - pages like http://free.russian-translation-matters.com/index.php?board=2.0 became http://free.russian-translation-matters.com/free-russian-translation-requests/
2. Sitemaps for free English Russian translation requests are created.
3. Powerful antispam.

Welcome to the forums when you have a moment.

Feedback about Russian Translation Services

Dear Client,

Welcome to my translation blog. I have been doing translations since I graduated from the University back in 2000 but I launched my first website in 2005. Many people have used my services and I have received lots of emails saying something like “thanks for the great service”. Now you have an opportunity to post your feedback here and help me boost my bisiness. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely yours,

Igor Shevkoplyas

Top misconceptions about translators

Most people (and many clients) have some misconceptions about translators that lead to misunderstandings:

  • As a translator you can translate all subjects
  • If you speak a foreign language you can automatically translate into it
  • If you can hold a conversation in a foreign language then you are bilingual
  • Translators are mind-readers and can produce a perfect translation without having to consult the author of the original text, irrespective of whether it is ambiguous, vague or badly written

Freelance vs In-house Translator

Being a freelance translator sounds like a great thing and has some major benefits

  • it’s more efficient to work from home than to transit to work every day
  • you can take a leave when you deem it fit
  • you don’t have to work on texts you don’t like
  • you can move your working hours around other activities that matter to you
  • you can have time to go back to school because you do not need to select courses that fit your job schedule

But there are some drawbacks too:

  • freelancing requires lots of discipline
